These resources have been compiled by me (Señorita Elliott) and students in Spanish class. The most recently updated list will always be available at Srta. Elliott's Diigo Library, but this page will make it easier to navigate while using the class wiki.

Please let me know if a link is broken, old, or if you have suggestions for new resources. Email me at lmelliott@k12.wv.us.

Dictionaries and References
Use these if you need to look up a word or an unfamiliar phrase.

WordReference.Com
An excellent online dictionary, this takes some getting used to but it's worth it. There are language forums at the bottom of each dictionary entry that focus on slang terms and idioms. A great resource for Spanish and lots of other languages, as well.

Omniglot.Org
Omniglot is a site devoted to languages. The Spanish language page has the alphabet as well as pronunciation rules and links to other Spanish learning resources.

LanguageGuide.Org
This is a great vocabulary builder in Spanish (and many other languages). You can hear every word by scrolling over it with your mouse. Great for vocabulary and listening practice.

¡Avancemos! Class Textbook Website
This is the textbook that we use in class. Use this site to view the grammar video clips we see in class, play games with vocabulary words, or try the @HomeTutor to brush up on your Spanish skills.

Spanish Idiom Dictionary
A dictionary for all those phrases that simply can't be translated word-for-word. Wondering what it means to "levantar la liebre" ("raise the hare")? Look here!

Real Academia Española
The Real Academia Española (RAE) is the official organization that monitors the Spanish language. This website has a Spanish-only dictionary.

Free Language Lessons Online
All the materials and lessons in these links are free. Some sites may offer lessons/materials for a fee in addition to their free materials. I do not know how effective these lessons are; I can only vouch for the free materials on these sites.

LiveMocha
LiveMocha offers free language learning materials and well-organized lessons for users who create an account. Be careful, though--LiveMocha also includes a social component. You can use the site without ever talking to another person. If you choose to contact other language learners, NEVER give out personal information of any kind. This is a great resource, but use it with caution.

BBC Languages
The BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) is more than an excellent news source: it's also a great source of language lessons in Spanish and many other languages. The Spanish in these lessons is usually European Spanish, which is the variety we study in Unit 4 of Spanish I class. The site offers video clips, transcripts, listening exercises, links to other materials, email updates, games, and much more.

RadioLingua - Coffee Break Spanish
Radio Lingua has a number of programs for Spanish, but their best materials for Level I Spanish is the Coffee Break Spanish podcast. You can access the podcast on the Radio Lingua website, or you can search "Coffee Break Spanish" on iTunes to subscribe for free.
